Don't Work When You're Sick

No Sense Friday

I had a great topic for today’s edition of No Sense Friday. I really did. But then, I woke up sick. My nose feels stuffy, my head hurts, and I don’t feel like writing at all - which is the biggest sign there is, because I always feel like writing.

For the past five years, every time that happened, I told myself some excuse and pushed through.

“You’re a freelancer just starting out, you gotta cover rent!”

“You’ve been doing daily posts for half a year, you can’t drop the ball now!”

“People are expecting this email from you!”

But even if those things were true (they weren’t), none of them were more important than my health. When I lose that, all I care about is getting it back. Because without health, what good is all the other stuff?

So not this time. I’ve worked so hard to never have to work when I’m sick. It’s about time I use this power.

And even though there might be some exceptions, actually, most of us have it. We just choose to ignore it. Because we wanna look dedicated. Or have a scarcity mindset. Or fear a consequence that’ll never happen.

Don’t work when you’re sick. It makes no sense. The moment you don’t feel well, all of your time, attention, and energy should go into recovery. We need you at your best. And the faster you heal, the faster we’ll get you back.

Me? You’ll hear from me when I’m well again. Thank you for understanding.

About No Sense Friday: Most people live for Friday. Relaxing on the weekend is fine, but we can’t just waste it away every time. That’s why Friday is the most important day to call out things that make no sense. Because in a way, the concept of ‘Friday’ itself makes no sense.

A good life is lived every day, not just once a week.
